It’s a Conspiracy! Episode 1

Region near Kaminak Lake, NU, from Google Earth

This is the first of what I hope to be a continuing series of blog posts about certain conspiracy theories and the joyous laughter I get from perusing them. I enjoy conspiracy theories in the same way that I enjoy certain other types of fiction. I’m not implying that there are never conspiracies between people …

Cool Abstract Backgrounds

Fractal image generated by qosmic

It’s great when I have a relevant photograph or other image to use as a header background for a post. Sometimes I really don’t have anything appropriate, though. Abstract images are a great substitute for relevance. I’m not really a big fan of abstract art. I’m not much of an artist, either, when it comes …

Phidippus audax in my living room again

Phidippus audax 0006

During the past several days, I’ve noticed a new (to me) bold jumping spider (Phidippus audax) in my living room. This one appears to be an adult, judging from its size and the fact that its markings are all white rather than a reddish-brown color. It’s a pretty big spider. This species gets to be …

Lycosidae: Who Let the Wolves Out?

The spiders that I notice around the house are usually on the ceiling or high up on the wall. This guy was in the bathtub. I enjoy getting pictures of the little guys that find their way into the house. If they’re the ones I conclude could be dangerous, though, they don’t last long.

Day 2 of Round 1

I’m sitting here getting chemotherapy for the second of three days in a row. I feel fine, and it all seems to be going smoothly. I’ll have two more 3-day sessions like this, at three week intervals. After that, it’s on to the stem cell transplant!

I Like My Macchinetta

I didn’t like coffee until I was in my mid-twenties. I loved the aroma, but simply hadn’t developed a taste for it. One of my co-workers at the time was an avid coffee drinker (and former police officer). He worked diligently at getting me to drink coffee, and eventually succeeded. I’ve always been a fan …
