Judith

Maynard James Keenan has explained that this song is about his mother, Judith Marie Keenan, who was restricted to a wheelchair for the rest of her life after suffering a stroke. I appreciate the sentiments expressed in the lyrics. I can only hope that as time goes by, more Christians will examine some of the questions they raise.

This is Judith by A Perfect Circle.

A Perfect Circle – Judith by hypnozia

Lyrics below the fold.

Judith

You’re such an inspiration for the ways that I will never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you how your savior has abandoned you

Fuck your god
Your lord, your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, never stray, never
Taste of the fruit
Never thought to question why

It’s not like you killed someone
It’s not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed
He did it all for you

He did it all for you

Oh so many ways for me to show you how your dogma has abandoned you

Pray
To your Christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break, never
Choke on a lie
Even though he’s the one who
Did this to you
Never thought to question why

It’s not like you killed someone
It’s not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if He knows the reasons why
He did it all for you

He did it all for you

He did it all for you

  1. not very nice to use fxxx your god in the song

    1. Not very “nice” to use the phrase “fuck your god”??

The god that she had prayed to, the god she had worshiped since she was a young girl, had left her helpless after a devastating stroke. What sort of kind and loving god lets that happen to people?

Fuck her god. Fuck your god.

It’s very easy for me to say such things because I do not believe that god or gods have ever existed, or will ever exist.

      1. RAmen!

(I’m going out on a limb here and assuming ye will show some respect to *my* god, matey)

        1. No worries about that at all, Shawn.

          RAmen!

  2. This song so very makes me smile.

And “not nice” is what the god of the mythos referenced in the song was all about, WM. Destroyer of worlds, inciter of genocide, rape, incest and all manner of hateful things.

Fuck your evil excuse for a god…

  3. I should note that this totally fit my mood today – I started the day with Tori Amos, went to U2, then on to Ani Defranco and was listening to Butterfly Effect before I put on Godsmack…Though that does make me consider – I don’t have any Perfect Circle on my mp3 player right now…

I am more and more tempted to buy a used, high capacity Zune or something. While I might not be able to manage my entire music collection, especially given that I also need room for audiobooks – I could totally do with more variety than a measly four gigs allows.
